Trojans split pair over the weekend.

The Trojans ended the week by splitting a pair of contests. On Friday night, the Trojans travelled to conference powerhouse Riverside Brookfield. The Trojans came out and matched the Bulldogs in the first quarter for about 5 minutes where the game was tied at 8-8. RB went on a run scoring a couple of 2 point baskets and drilling 4 3 point baskets for a 24-8 lead and never looked back. The Trojans could not generate any type of rhythm against the defense from the Bulldogs and shot very poorly from the field. The final score was 77-39. Reggie Greenwood finished with 13 pts, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Rob Stein played limited minutes because of foul trouble and finished with 10 pts and 7 rebounds. This was not a very strong game for us and we know we will need to play much better the next time we play RB.

On Saturday, the Trojans played Chicago Manley in the Lisle Shootout. Going into the game, there was a big question as to how the Trojans would respond from the previous night's poor performance. The Trojans responded in exciting fashion. Manley was similar in height to the Trojans and played an uptempo game. The Trojans continued to handle the pressure and push the ball up the court gaining an advantage and kept attacking the basket. The final score saw the Trojans scoring a Shootout record of 93 points to Manley's 67. On the defensive side, Manley was able to get some easier shots, but also hit some deep 3 pointers to keep them scoring with the Trojans. This was a solid game with energy coming from everyone. The team did a very good job continuing the unselfish play of sharing the ball (23 assists) and encouraging each other. There were some big stat lines this game, but many times not all the contributions showed up in the stats. Many defensive touches led to steals and assists to teammates. The starters all made strong contributions as Rob Stein (23 pts, 7 reb), Justin Peeples (23 pts, 5 rebs, 4 stls), Reggie Greenwood (16 pts, 6 rebs, 4 stls, and 12 assists), Mark Penczak (4 pts, 3 rebs, 2 assists), Mike Pizzello (4 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assists, 2 stls) all played solid games. Off the bench the Trojans received huge support from sophomore Matt Morrison who contributed 14 pts and 5 rebounds. Chad Vos (2 rebs, 2 assists), Donte Williams (7 pts, 1 reb), Nathan Boot (2 pts, 1 reb), and Nate Ziegler (1 assist) all cracked the stat page. It was a fun game from the offensive standpoint and we were not sure we could remember the last time a Timothy team had scored 93 points.
The Trojans will play this Tuesday evening(7:30 pm) at Nazareth Academy, Friday at Elmwood Park (7:00 pm), and begin the Glenbard West Tournament on Saturday at 4:30 pm vs. Wheaton Academy. Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans!

Trojans drop first of season vs. Illiana Christian

The men from Timothy loss their first game of the season to Illiana Christian on Friday night. The gym was packed and we had a great atmosphere. Illiana came out and grabbed control in the first quarter and most of the first half. The Trojans battled back and tied the score at half 30-30. In the second half the teams battled back and forth with the game tied with about 4:00 to go in the fourth quarter. The Vikings from Illiana were able to hit the crucial shots and also the free throws down the stretch to win the game 65-49.
The Trojans were outrebounded 41-29 and also struggled to hit shots on this night. They shot just 33% from the field and 55% from the free throw line. The Trojans will continue to work hard in practice and hope to play much better in our next game. The next game is against conference favorite and area powerhouse Riverside Brookfield at their place on Friday night Dec. 11 at 7:00 pm. We really appreciated the tremendous support on Friday. Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans. The Trojans move to 5-1 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

Timothy victorious over Immaculate Conception

Tuesday night saw the Trojans open up their home schedule vs. neighbors in Elmhurst Immaculate Conception. Both teams came out blazing in the first quarter trading baskets for a 22-16 score at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans were able to increase their lead to 36-24 at the half. In the third quarter, IC was able to cut the lead down to 6 pts. The Trojans responded with a run of their own and were able to win the game by a score of 74-57.

Timothy was led by Robert Stein (24 pts and 16 rebounds). Rob was a force all night. Reggie Greenwood (11 pts and 7 assists) and Mark Penczak (9 pts and 5 assists) also had strong games. An outstanding defensive effort was turned in by Mike Pizzello who was assigned the task of guarding IC's leading scorer. The Trojans shared the ball very well at times tonight and it was a fun game to both watch and be part of. Timothy finished with 20 assists on the evening.

Thank you for a great opening night crowd. Please come out and support the Trojans on Friday night as they open up conference play vs. rival Illiana Christian. The game will be played at Timothy with a tip-off scheduled for 7:30 pm.
