Trojans win opener at Lisle
The Trojans opened the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament with a 56-41 win over Montini on Tuesday Nov. 25. Some first game nerves were evident as the Trojans fell behind early to find themselves on the short end at the quarter 15-9. The shortfall continued to 21-9 when Sophomore Mark Penczak drilled a 3 point basket to cut the deficit to 9 and the team continued to whittle down the score to trail 21-25 at the half. The Trojans regrouped at halftime and came out with renewed energy and played very good team basketball to outscore their opponent 22-7 in the 3rd quarter. The Trojans also won the 4th quarter battle and finished the game with the final score of 56-41. Although the team did start a little rough, it was nice to see the Trojans keep battling and using their teammates to continue moving forward as the game played on. The game showed the depth of the Trojans as was evident in the box score. The Trojans were led by Peter Tameling with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Reggie Greenwood finished with 10 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Jaaron Holmes kept the team in the game in the 2nd quarter playing with 2 fouls and showed tremendous leadership finishing with 7 points and 3 assists. Junior Kordel Smith finished with 9 points and had a tremendous offensive rebound highlight going above the rebound to tip in a missed shot. Senior Rob White finished with 4 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Sophomores Mark Penczak and Mike Pizzello began their varsity careers in fine fashion. Mark finished with 5 points and 1 assist and Mike Pizzello finished with 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Mike also played an excellent defensive game. The Trojans shot 78.6% from the Free throw line. The next game is Friday Night at Lisle at 6:00 vs. Driscoll Catholic and again on Saturday at Lisle at 7:30 vs the host Lions from Lisle. Please come on out and support the Trojans.
