Trojans split pair over the weekend.

The Trojans ended the week by splitting a pair of contests. On Friday night, the Trojans travelled to conference powerhouse Riverside Brookfield. The Trojans came out and matched the Bulldogs in the first quarter for about 5 minutes where the game was tied at 8-8. RB went on a run scoring a couple of 2 point baskets and drilling 4 3 point baskets for a 24-8 lead and never looked back. The Trojans could not generate any type of rhythm against the defense from the Bulldogs and shot very poorly from the field. The final score was 77-39. Reggie Greenwood finished with 13 pts, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Rob Stein played limited minutes because of foul trouble and finished with 10 pts and 7 rebounds. This was not a very strong game for us and we know we will need to play much better the next time we play RB.

On Saturday, the Trojans played Chicago Manley in the Lisle Shootout. Going into the game, there was a big question as to how the Trojans would respond from the previous night's poor performance. The Trojans responded in exciting fashion. Manley was similar in height to the Trojans and played an uptempo game. The Trojans continued to handle the pressure and push the ball up the court gaining an advantage and kept attacking the basket. The final score saw the Trojans scoring a Shootout record of 93 points to Manley's 67. On the defensive side, Manley was able to get some easier shots, but also hit some deep 3 pointers to keep them scoring with the Trojans. This was a solid game with energy coming from everyone. The team did a very good job continuing the unselfish play of sharing the ball (23 assists) and encouraging each other. There were some big stat lines this game, but many times not all the contributions showed up in the stats. Many defensive touches led to steals and assists to teammates. The starters all made strong contributions as Rob Stein (23 pts, 7 reb), Justin Peeples (23 pts, 5 rebs, 4 stls), Reggie Greenwood (16 pts, 6 rebs, 4 stls, and 12 assists), Mark Penczak (4 pts, 3 rebs, 2 assists), Mike Pizzello (4 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assists, 2 stls) all played solid games. Off the bench the Trojans received huge support from sophomore Matt Morrison who contributed 14 pts and 5 rebounds. Chad Vos (2 rebs, 2 assists), Donte Williams (7 pts, 1 reb), Nathan Boot (2 pts, 1 reb), and Nate Ziegler (1 assist) all cracked the stat page. It was a fun game from the offensive standpoint and we were not sure we could remember the last time a Timothy team had scored 93 points.
The Trojans will play this Tuesday evening(7:30 pm) at Nazareth Academy, Friday at Elmwood Park (7:00 pm), and begin the Glenbard West Tournament on Saturday at 4:30 pm vs. Wheaton Academy. Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans!

Trojans drop first of season vs. Illiana Christian

The men from Timothy loss their first game of the season to Illiana Christian on Friday night. The gym was packed and we had a great atmosphere. Illiana came out and grabbed control in the first quarter and most of the first half. The Trojans battled back and tied the score at half 30-30. In the second half the teams battled back and forth with the game tied with about 4:00 to go in the fourth quarter. The Vikings from Illiana were able to hit the crucial shots and also the free throws down the stretch to win the game 65-49.
The Trojans were outrebounded 41-29 and also struggled to hit shots on this night. They shot just 33% from the field and 55% from the free throw line. The Trojans will continue to work hard in practice and hope to play much better in our next game. The next game is against conference favorite and area powerhouse Riverside Brookfield at their place on Friday night Dec. 11 at 7:00 pm. We really appreciated the tremendous support on Friday. Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans. The Trojans move to 5-1 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

Timothy victorious over Immaculate Conception

Tuesday night saw the Trojans open up their home schedule vs. neighbors in Elmhurst Immaculate Conception. Both teams came out blazing in the first quarter trading baskets for a 22-16 score at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans were able to increase their lead to 36-24 at the half. In the third quarter, IC was able to cut the lead down to 6 pts. The Trojans responded with a run of their own and were able to win the game by a score of 74-57.

Timothy was led by Robert Stein (24 pts and 16 rebounds). Rob was a force all night. Reggie Greenwood (11 pts and 7 assists) and Mark Penczak (9 pts and 5 assists) also had strong games. An outstanding defensive effort was turned in by Mike Pizzello who was assigned the task of guarding IC's leading scorer. The Trojans shared the ball very well at times tonight and it was a fun game to both watch and be part of. Timothy finished with 20 assists on the evening.

Thank you for a great opening night crowd. Please come out and support the Trojans on Friday night as they open up conference play vs. rival Illiana Christian. The game will be played at Timothy with a tip-off scheduled for 7:30 pm.

Trojans Capture Lisle Thanksgiving Championship!!

Congratulations to the Trojans from Timothy Christian for winning the Lisle Thanksgiving Championship! They beat Montini, Team Englewood, Chicago Perspectives, and then Lisle in the championship contest.

On Friday night the Trojans played against Chicago Perspectives Charter and their 6'8 center Anthony Davis. Although Davis ended the night with 41 pts (18 in the fourth quarter), the Trojans were able to keep control most of the game and prevail 80-61. Contributions came from all players and they were led by Justin Peeples (18 pts, 3 assists) and Reggie Greenwood.

Reggie finished the game with 24 pts, 9 assists, 6 steals, and 5 rebounds for a real strong all around game. Mike Pizzello and Rob Stein contributed 6 rebounds and Mark Penczak (8 pts, 4 rebs.), Matt Morrison (9 pts, 6 rebs), Chad Vos (6 pts), and Troy Ellens (5 pts, 3 rebs, 4 stls) all played key roles.

Saturday night was against the 3-0 Lisle Lions for the tournament championship. This game was a good test for the team as the teams battled back and forth and the Trojans were unable to shake the Lions from Lisle until the final score of 62-45.

Overall strong play tonight as Rob Stein (17 pts, 11 rebs), Justin Peeples (17 pts, 4 stls, 3 rebs), and Reggie Greenwood (11 pts, 7 rebs, 4 stls, 9 assists), Mark Penczak (10 pts, 2 rebs) and Mike Pizzello (2 pts, 2 stls, 2 rebs, 2 assists) all gave strong contributions to secure the championship.

Coach LeGrand was very pleased with the play of the Trojans in the young season capturing the championship. The entire team has been working hard together and did a very good job. We have identified some items we need to keep working on to get better, but overall did a good job in this tournament.

Reggie Greenwood, Justin Peeples, and Rob Stein were selected on the all-tournament teams. Good job guys and well deserved!

The Trojans have a tough schedule coming up. We are home on Tuesday night vs. Immaculate Conception and home on Friday against Illiana Christian.

Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans!

Trojans Earn 2nd Victory in Lisle Tourney

The men from Timothy earned their second victory last night at the Lisle Thanksgiving tourney. They defeated Team Englewood 61-39. The first quarter was a tight game with the Trojans leading at the end of the first 8 minutes 14-13. The defense tightened and Team Englewood cooled off a bit from the outside to send the Trojans into half-time with a 30-17 lead. The second half would be much of the same as the Trojans never looked back.

The Trojans received a strong game from seniors Justin Peeples and Rob Stein. Justin Peeples ended the game with 21 pts and 5 rebounds. Rob Stein registered his first double double of the season with by scoring 11 pts and grabbing 14 rebounds. Junior Chad Vos and Sophomore Matt Morrison came off the bench with strong contributions. Chad had 9 pts, 5 rebounds and played solid defense. Matt also gave an energy spark with 7 rebounds to go along with 6 pts.

We were a little sloppy at times with poor passing (17 turnovers) and poor free throw shooting (10-22), but still showed the resolve needed to get the job done.

The next game for the Trojans will be at the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament on Friday night at 7:30 vs. Perspectives.

We really appreciated all the support last night. Please keep coming out to support the Trojans.

Trojans win opener at Lisle

Monday night was the opening of the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament. The Trojans began a little tight and cold from the field scoring only 4 points in the first 6:30 seconds. They ended the quarter on a 10-0 run turning a 4-8 deficit into a 14-8 lead at the quarter. They never looked back from that point winning the opening round game vs Montini by a score of 74-38.

There were good contributions from the entire team. The defensive effort in the 3rd quarter especially was very good as the Trojans held the Broncos to 4 pts. Leading the way for the Trojans while battling a sprained ankle was Reggie Greenwood (18pts, 6 rebs, 3 stls, & 4 assists), and Robert Stein (16 pts, 5 rebs.). Justin Peeples (8 pts, 3 stls, 2 assists), Mike Pizzello (5 rebs, 3 stls, 3 assists), and Mark Penczak (7 pts, 5 rebs,) had strong games as well.

Solid contributions came from others as well. Donte' Williams pulled in 4 rebounds to go along with 4 pts. Sophomore Matt Morrison saw his first varsity action and chipped in with 4 pts and 4 boards. Chad Vos (4 pts, 3 rebs.), Troy Ellens (4 pts), Nathan Boot (3 pts), Daihee Cho (4 pts,), Jon Penczak, and Nate Ziegler all saw time on the varsity floor and contributed to the victory.

Overall, it was a good beginning. It was good to get a game under our belts and keep processing areas where we need to keep improving. Thank you for your support!

Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans.

The next game is Wednesday at Lisle at 7:30 pm vs Team Englewood.

Free Throws For Heroes!!

Our Boy's and Girl's basketball programs will be joining many schools around the state of Illinois in a Free Throws for Heroes Charitable program. This program is sponsored by the IHSA, IBCA, and IADA. It is set up to help Illinois servicemen, servicewomen, and their families who continue to sacrifice so much to safeguard our families and protect our freedoms. Our players will be coming home with a pledge card to see gather support for their free throw program. On or around Jan. 21, all the schools that are participating in this program will take some time out in their practice to shoot free throws. At Timothy, we will be shooting 50 free throws. A sponsor can either give a donation outright or for each free throw made. Thank you for considering sponsoring this worthy cause. If you want to see more information you can visit www.thecharitystripe.net or www.freethrowsforheroes.org .

Trojans split this weekend.

This past weekend the Trojans split a pair of contests. On Friday, The Trojans continued their conference play with a victory over Westminster Christian. We had a slow start being outscored in the fist quarter 10-7. The 2nd quarter the Trojans played a little better and went in at half leading 22-14. In the second half the Trojans turned up the heat and came away with a strong defensive effort and won 61-26. The Trojans were led in scoring by Reggie Greenwood (17 points, 3 steals), Peter Tameling (14 points, 7 rebounds,) and Kordel Smith (10 points) Jaaron Holmes had a strong game contributing 5 assists, 5 touches, and 2 steals and Rob White contributed 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 assists, and 4 touches. It was a fine defensive effort by everyone.
On Saturday, the weather was not the best, but we still travelled to Holland Michigan for our game against Holland Christian. It was very exciting for the guys to play in the DeVos center. The locker rooms and floor made it extra special to be part of the event. The game started out with a frenetic pace as the Trojans led 21-16 at the quarter. Holland took the lead early in the 3rd quarter and the game was close throughout as the shorter Trojans battled the taller Holland Christian team. We had our chances down the stretch but were not able to capitalize. The Trojans only missed 5 free throws on the night, but 4 of the misses were in the 4th quarter. Holland Christian won the game 65-59. The Trojans were led by Peter Tameling (19 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals), Jaaron Holmes (12 points and 4 assists), Reggie Greenwood (13 points, 2 assists) and Robert White (7 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists). The Trojans played good team basketball for the most part and had only 1 turnover on the evening.
The Trojans now stand 9-5, 3-0 on the season. Thank you to so many fans that came out on a bad weather day to support the team. Please continue to support the Trojans! The next 3 games are on the road Friday at Luther South, Saturday at Latin, and Tuesday at Fenton. We return home for Homecoming next Friday vs. Aurora Christian.

Holland Christian Trip

Details about the Holland Christian game:

We will leave school after our shootaround from 11:00-11:50. We will travel with the Girl's Varsity.
We will travel by bus to the DeVos Fieldhouse.
We will probably stop somewhere close to the fieldhouse for a sandwich.
The Girls and Boys sophomore teams play earlier at Holland Christian High School. Girls at 2:30 and boys at 4:00
The Girls Varsity game is to be played at the DeVos Fieldhouse at 6:00 followed by the Boys Varsity at 7:30 pm.
Some of the players are staying with their families overnight in Holland and travelling home on Sunday. I know we had distributed some of that information earlier.

We WILL also have a bus travelling home after the game Saturday night. I would guess the arrival time home would be a little on the late side. (12:30-1:00 am approximate.)

The address for the Devos Fieldhouse is 222 Fairbanks Ave., Holland Michigan, 49423.

I hope this clarifies some of the questions.
