TC Trojans arrive in Phoenix

The Trojans left early this morning from Midway airport.  We arrived safely in Phoenix, Arizona.  We have now settled in to our rental house (which is very nice) and had a cookout.  We will have devotions tonight and prepare for our day tomorrow.  We will try to keep the blog updated but for now wanted to make sure everyone knew we had arrived safely.  We are very excited to see what is in store for us together on this trip.

Christmas Break update

The Trojans have been super busy over the break!  The following is a basic summary of the games.  The Trojans started break with a home victory vs Guerin Prep 65-36 on Tuesday Dec. 20.

The Trojans competed in the Jack Tosh York Christian tournament.  This is a very strong tournament vs schools with much larger enrollments.  The Trojans had a good tournament finishing with a 2-2 record.

12/26 vs Highland Park -- loss 50-61. The Trojans played well early with a lead of 10 pts in the second quarter.  Highland park closed the 2nd quarter and started the 3rd quarter with some hot shooting to take the lead and never give it up.  Brandon Orange (13 pts, 8 Rebs, 2 assists), Jonny Strube (12 pts, 6 Rebs, 3 assists), Joey Davidson (10 pts, 4 Rebs) and Jimmy Allen (6 pts, 5 assists, 5 Rebs) led the way. Trayvon Williams (6 pts, 3 Rebs, 3 stls) gave a spark as well.

12/27 vs Elk Grove -- win 63-40.  The Trojans came back hungry and secured the victory.  A close first half was extended in the second half as the Trojans had the rebounding advantage 45-29 and dished out 16 assists.  Brandon Orange (16 pts, 6 Rebs), and Jonny Strube (13 Rebs, 9 pts, 4 assists, 5 blocks) led the Trojans but there were strong contributions from the Trojan bench as well.

12/28 vs Rolling Meadows -- loss 39-53.  Rolling Meadows played solid defense and the Trojans were outplayed on this night and struggled getting a flow offensively.  Thr Trojans were led by JoeyDavidson (14 pts, 5 Rebs).

12/29 vs Oswego -- win 65-59 in overtime.  On this last night of the tournament the Trojans found themselves in a very tough game vs Oswego without starter Joey Davidson who was out with illness.  The Trojans showed great resolve as they battled the entire night.  The boys held a 2 point lead at halftime.  The 2nd half saw the Trojans down 7 at the beginning of the 4th quarter.  The Trojans made a furious comeback to tie the game and send it into overtime.  During the overtime the boys made 10-10  free throws to close out the victory.  The Trojans shot 14-16 from the FT line and this was a complete team victory with contributions all around.   Jonny Strube (18 pts, 7 Rebs, 5 assists, 2 stls, 1 block) had a monster game.  Jimmy Allen (14 pts, 6 Rebs, 1 steal), Brandon Orange (14 pts, 5 Rebs, 3 blocks, 1 assist), Trayvon Williams (8 pts, 3 Rebs, 2 stls, 2 assists), Ty Merrick (5 pts, 7 Rebs, 4 assists, 1 stl), and Mike Thomas (5 pts) all made significant contributions.  This was a great way to close out the tournament with such a spirited effort.

12/31 vs Chicago Christian at the United Center -- loss 42-68.  The Trojans had a wonderful opportunity to compete at the United center to close out the year.  The Knights had a hot shooting night and was able to beat the Trojans on this night.  Although the outcome was very disappointing, the experience to play on the same floor as the Chicago Bulls will be a lasting memory.  Thank you to all the Timothy Christian fans that came out to support our basketball team, cheer, dance, and pep band.  It was great to see so many of the TC community together.  The Trojans record is now 10-4 and 4-2 in conference play.

The Trojans will leave early Tuesday morning for the Renew term.  We will be traveling to Phoenix Arizona and doing various service projects, worshiping, leading a chapel at a christian school, college visits, and other activities together.  We will not have a game until Friday January 13 vs Glenbard South at TC. Please keep our guys in prayer as we look for ways to serve our Lord! We will put updates from our trip on our blog during our stay.

Trojans earn hard fought victory on the road vs Ridgewood

On Friday night the Trojans traveled to face a very strong team from Ridgewood.  The Trojans got out to an early lead only to see the Rebels fight back to take the lead. The Trojans would fine themselves down by 5 heading into the 4th quarter.  The team would battle back and take the lead late in the game.  Both teams exchanged the lead a couple times and the Trojans came away with a 60-59 victory.

Good contributions from the team as many times they would make the next pass for the score. The team had 13 assists.  Scoring in double figures were Brandon Orange (17 pts, 6 Rebs, 2 assists) and Joey Davidson (10 pts, 4 Rebs, 3 assists, 2 steals).  Ty Merrick (9 pts, 5 assists, 2 Rebs), Jonny Strube (6 pts, 4 Rebs, 3 stops, 2 assists), Michael Thomas (8 pts), Jimmy Allen (6 pts, 2 Rebs, 1 assist, 1 steal), Trayvon Williams (4 steals, 2 pts), and Nick Tameling (2 pts) all dented the scoresheet.

On Saturday the boys hosted conference opponent Elmwood Park. Again the boys got control of the game early and never looked back; up 13 at half 38-25 they continued to apply the pressure for a 66-47 victory.  The boys again had a lot of great performances as all 12 players saw playing time.

B. Orange (19p/ 10r/ 3b/ 9-12 fgm) J. Strube (18p/ 4r/ 4 3ptfgm) J. Davidson (14p/ 3r/ 3a) Ty. Merrick (4p/ 5r/ 5a) M. Thomas (5p/ 2r/ 2a) J. Trojans lose a close contest to Chicago Christian

The Trojans lost a closely fought contest on Friday night to Chicago Christian by a score of 54-51.  The game was close throughout as each team traded slight leads.  The final quarter saw the Trojans clinging to a small lead only to come up empty on 3 straight possessions opening the window for the Knights.  The Trojans struggled finishing tonight and also struggled from the free throw line.  We will get better in both areas.

Jonny Strube (9 pts, 6 Rebs, 2 assists), Joey Davidson (17 pts, 2 Rebs, 1 assist), Brandon Orange (12 pts, 6 Rebs, 2 assists), Ty Merrick (5pts, 6 assists, 3 Rebs), and Jimmy Allen (7 pts, 4 Rebs), led a balanced attack for the Trojans.

The Trijans would like to thank the incredible support from the red zone and the many fans who showed up in force.

The Trojans play at Walther Christian on Friday night at 7:00 pm and home on Saturday vs Elmwood Park at 6:00 pm.  Please come out and support the Trojans!
