Finally playing ball again after the snow storm of 2011 caused many schools to miss school and practice for two days, there was some concern as to how the Trojans would play on Friday night. The intensity of the conference game with Illiana was present from the beginning. In the first quarter, the Trojans came out playing well and were leading by a 16-8 score at the first break. During the second quarter, the Vikings got it going and the Trojans struggled offensively as the half time score was 25-23 in favor of the Trojans. During the beginning of the 3rd quarter, Illiana moved ahead by about 8 points and then the Trojans responded with a run of their own. Mark Penczak found Mike Pizzello for a basket at the end of the 3rd quarter pulling the Trojans within four by a score of 38-42. The fourth quarter was back and forth and the Trojans found themselves down 3 with 15 seconds to play. After a mad scramble, Mike Pizzello found Danny Leach at the top of the key and he knocked down the 3 pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime with the score knotted 54-54. In the overtime period, things remained at a high excitement level as both teams had their opportunities and the game went back and forth. In the end, the Trojans were able to come out with a hard fought victory by a score of 62-58.
Mark Penczak (17 pts, 6 rebs, 8 assists)had a solid all around game again for the Trojans. Chris Ridolphi (11 pts, 6 rebs, 5 stls) also played a complete game. Danny Leach (15 pts, 4 assists, 2 rebs, 2 stls), Matt Morrison (9 pts, 4 rebs, 1 stl), Mike Pizzello (8 pts, 5 rebs, 2 assists, 1 stl), Troy Ellens (1 reb, 1 assist), Nathan Ziegler (2 pts, 1 stl), Nathan Boot (2 stls,), and Matt Robinson (1 reb) all cracked the scoresheet on the night.
The Trojans now move to 13-7 and 4-3 on the season and will travel to conference leader Riverside Brookfield on Tuesday. Game time will be at 7:00 pm. Thank you for the tremendous support so far this season. Please keep supporting the team.
