Trojans fall to Waubonsie Valley

In the 4th game of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic the Trojans were matched up against Waubonsie Valley with the winner playing Dec. 31st for the Consolation championship of the 32-team tournament. This game proved to be a defensive battle as both teams shot below 40% for the game and limited the offensive boards. The game started with two quick Waubonsie Valley three pointers but WV cooled off as the Trojans limited them to primarily shots from the perimeter. In a low scoring first half the Trojans trailed by a score of 15-11 at halftime. In the second half both teams struggled to score with TC going into the fourth trailing by six points. The Trojans closed the lead to 25-21 but that was as close as it got with TC eventually falling by a score of 25-36. The lose meant that TC was eliminated from the tournament and finished with a 2-2 record for the tournament. The Trojans overall record drops to 8-5(3-1 conference) with their next game being a conference game on Jan. 7 at 7pm at Illiana Christian.

For the game Khali Valrie was high score with 14 points on 5-9 shooting. Justin Rhiner, Connor VanderBrug, Joe Bishop, and Wes Ditchfield recorded four rebounds apiece. Bishop also dished out two assists and Valrie contributed two steals for the TC cause. Thanks to all those who came out to support the Trojans at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. Trojans Capture Tournament Win over Minooka

It is Christmas time and that means back-to-back-to-back games for the Trojans and all teams participating in the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. After splitting the first two games of the tournament the Trojans captured their second win of the tournament downing the Minooka Indians by a score of 44-43. The game was very much in doubt throughout as the Trojans led early only to have Minooka fight and claw back to tie the score 21-21 at halftime. Minooka came out of halftime executing on all cylinders as they went on a 14-5 run in the third quarter to take a 9-pt lead at 35-26. The Trojans, however, rallied back to tie the score up at 38-38, aided by two three point field goals by Justin Rhiner. For the rest of the game it went from TC leading to a tie score and ultimately TC leading. Two free throws each by Khali Valrie and Robert McGivney gave TC the lead with minutes to play. Valrie got TC the lead for good on a lay-up that extended the lead to 44-40. The Indians made 3-pt field goal to bring the game to 44-43 and that is how it would end as TC came out victorious.

In a relatively low scoring game the Trojans were led in scoring by Khali Valrie with 20 points. Connor VanderBrug had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks while Robert McGivney chipped in 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Thanksgiving tournament results

The Trojans started the season with the annual Thanksgiving tournament at Lisle High School. On Tuesday, the Trojans opened up with University High School. On Friday the Trojans tried to shake off the rust from the Thanksgiving dinner vs Perspectives. The game was close throughout and then the Trojans found themselves down by 10 pts with 4:30 seconds to play in the game. The Trojans put together a furious comeback to tie the game. The opportunities were there for the taking but the Trojans could not get the job done as Perspectives had the ball with .8 seconds under the hoop. They were able to put in a tip in off a deflection to defeat the Trojans 48-46. The shocking end to the game hurt, but we will learn from this loss and move on. The first quarter saw the Trojans get out to an early lead only to give the lead up and trail 10-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. The rest of the way would be all Trojans as they would play some stingy defense to get the victory. Hot shooting by Connor VanderBrug (20 pts, 6 rebs, 2 asssist, 2 blocks) and an outstanding floor game by Justin Rhiner (5 steals, 4 assists, 5 pts, 3 rebs) led the way.
