The Trojans competed at the IC Catholic Prep Regional for the IHSA 2A State tournament.  They opened the regional play vs Westmont.  The Trojans were attempting to beat a Westmont team for a 3rd time this season.  This game was a tough affair and Westmont took a 20-15 halftime lead.  The 3rd quarter saw the Trojans come out and play inspired basketball outscoring the Sentinals 16-7 for a 31-27 lead.  The Trojans were able to come out with a 39-33 victory and advance to play in the Regional Championship game.  The Trojans were led by Brandon Orange (14 pts, 6 rebounds), Joey Davidson (12 pts, 3 rebs) and Jonny Strube (10 rebs, 7 pts).  Ty Merrick distributed 5 assists on the evening.

The Trojans then played IC Catholic Prep in the Regional Championship on Friday night.  The atmosphere was electric and perfect for a neighborhood championship game.  The game would feature 24 lead changes.  The final tally had the Trojans on the short end of a 53-52 score.  Brandon Orange (17 pts, 7 rebs), Jonny Strube (11 pts, 3 rebs, 3 assists, and 2 blocks), and Joey Davidson (9 pts, 4 rebs, 3 assists), and Ty Merrick (7 pts, 5 rebs, 2 steals, and 3 assists) all had strong games as well as Jimmy Allen with stellar defense on the night.

The Trojans finished the season 17-11 and 8-4 in conference play for a 2nd place finish in the Metro Suburban Red Division.  The seniors are to be commended for such an important role in our program and will be missed.  Thank you for all the support this season and good things are ahead for the Trojan program in the future.

On Friday night the Trojans took a short trip down York road to play crosstown rival Immaculate Conception.  The Trojans couldn’t recover from their slow start and poor shooting in which they were down 6 after 1 quarter and 11 and half and dropped the contest to the Knights 61-46.  The Trojans only shot 36% from the floor they were led by seniors Joey Davidson’s 17 points and Johnny Strube’s 9 points.
On Saturday the Trojans hosted old PSL rival Illiana Christian to Elmhurst.  In front of a packed house the Trojans got back in the win column with a 54-50 victory.  The Trojans got back to their unselfish style of basketball and had 15 assists for 18 made baskets; with 8 of those made baskets being 3 pointers.  It took a team effort from the Trojans with some very key performances by seniors Johnny Strube (16p/7r/2a/4b), and Joey Davidson (15p/2r/1a) and Junior Jimmy Allen (12p/6r/5a/2s)

Last days

The last two days have been a blur.  We spent yesterday by taking a visit to Grand Canyon University.  We went on an extensive tour of the campus.  The University has seen substantial growth and the guys had the opportunity to not only take in the tour but also have a talk and Challenge from Professor Brian Smith, Ph.D.  Professor Smith is the assistant dean and director of sports business for the Colangelo College of Business at Grand Canyon University.

After our visit and lunch on campus we had practice at Arizona Christian University.

We were very fortunate to enjoy a wonderful meal and then were able to return to CCV church to watch the college football National Championsip on tv. (No ESPN at the house)

We returned home and once again had devotions before lights out.

Today we had our last day in Arizona.  We began our day by joining with some students from Northwest Christian once again at St. Vincent DePaul.  They continue to serve so many areas in the community.  The boys all worked outside today at the Urban farm on site.  Jobs included weeding, planting, moving mulch, etc.  the guys planted about a thousand pounds of food today.

Another interesting thing was that from our previous visit the guys talked about an idea presented by Coach DK.  One of the needs in the community is for clothing and shoes. Today when we showed up to work we had two bags of donations as guys donated some shoes and clothes.  After our work, we went to lunch with the students from Northwest Christian.

After lunch, we stopped at Camelback mountain for a hike.  This was quite a good workout as the guys hiked for close to two hours.  Many of the guys made it all the way to the top!

We finished our night with devotions and processed the events from the trip.  God has been VERY present on this Renew trip.  We have served, shared, and listened.  It was amazing how our speakers would talk about topics that we had been talking about as a group in devotions.  This happened many times.  We also were able to experience a part of the country where God's beautiful creation is on full display. We feel very fortunate to have had these experiences.

We will head back to Chicago tomorrow.  We are so thankful to so many who helped with this trip.  This is true of the colleges, high school, speakers, parents, supporters, and Mr. Davidson (our unofficial tour guide)  Please keep us in prayer.

Gods beautiful creation!

Yesterday some of us decided to get up extra early and go to CCV church to hike the hill and be at the cross on top at sunrise.  We did a prayer walk while hiking up the hill and just sat in silence at the foot of the cross as the sun came up over the horizon.  It was a wonderful experience to join hands and pray together around the cross and share our experiences.

Halfway up the hill there is a tomb to symbolize Jesus being placed there after his death.

This is the sign inside the Empty tomb.  He is Not Here. He Has Risen!  This was very powerful to experience this.

Coach LeGrand, Coach DeKoekkoek and some guys at sunrise at the foot of the cross!
We feel very blessed to have such a powerful experience together.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing and enjoying a great day in Arizona!

CCV

We started off the morning with a good practice at Northwest Christian School. After we practiced we headed over to CCV (Christ Church of The Valley) a mega church in Arizona which has seven campuses spread out over the Phoenix area. Some of the guys helped CCV set up tables and chairs for their Junior High worship center, while others helped clean their sports facilities. After we helped the church we attended the 6:00 PM worship service.  This is one of the five services they offer over the weekend at the main campus. After the service we sat down and had a very inspiring challenge from the founder and senior pastor of the church Pastor Don Wilson. Pastor Don Wilson really inspired all of us with his talk and challenged all of us to be better leaders for the kingdom of God, and to reach those around us.

The team with Pastor Don Wilson

Grand Canyon

Yesterday was a day to experience the BEAUTIFUL CREATION OF GOD!!!  We left early in the morning and traveled to Northern Arizona to see the Grand Canyon.  Of the group only a few had experienced this before.
The first difference we experienced was the weather change as our area in Southern Arizona had been mid 60's the day before but we were now back in 30 degree weather with snow and cold winds. Once we walked up to the canyon the words can't properly describe the beauty.  I don't think the pictures do it justice either.  We were filled with AWE and AMAZEMENT.  The canyon is 277 miles long and 18 miles wide in the longest spot.
We spent some time together and enjoyed Gods beauty!

Seniors!

Juniors!
We then took a very scenic drive through the mountains through Sedona.  This is another beautiful area.

We ended the night taking in a high school game and finished the night once again with some powerful devotions.  We drove a lot of miles today but it was such a wonderful experience.

Full day of service!

What a wonderful day for Timothy Christian!  We spent a full day of serving our Lord.  Although people said we were a blessing to others today, the reality was that we were blessed to have this opportunity to serve.
We went to the society of St. Vincent de Paul today to serve in various capacities.  The motto at St. Vincent de Paul is to strive to Feed, Clothe, House, and Heal individuals and families in the community. We started the day with a tour of the facility. This organization is truly impressive.  They provide services for pretty much everything.  They offer clothes, food, programs for children, programs to help with housing, job hunting, and medical services.  We saw the various areas of the warehouse as well as the farm where the growing of their own food happens as well.

The boys were then divided into groups.  Some guys worked outside planting food.

Others worked sorting shoes which was a big task.

A 3rd group prepared hundreds of tamales which would be used for tomorrow's meal.
After our time in preparation we then moved into the kitchen for preparations for the evening dinner.
The center serves dinner Monday - Friday to families in the community.  The service will be for 250 people each night.  While in the kitchen we had multiple jobs.  We spent time preparing the meal.  Some guys opened and filled a garbage sized can with tomato sauce.  Others spent exhausting time cleaning lettuce for the salad bar. Filled cans of lettuce show the amount of work.  Others helped make the enchiladas for the evening.  Of course we also spent time emptying garbage and cleaning floors.

The evening brought us into the dining room with more jobs and interactions with people in the community.  Dinner is served restaurant style.  We dressed the tables and prepared for dinner service.  Some guys had the task of working with children during the night. They helped with homework and also played games with the kids.  Others were serving food either at the salad bar or taking actual orders and delivering the plates.
We finished the night at home with devotions and sharing our thoughts on the day.  Although we were exhausted it was such a blessing to see and execute the process of some of the things that St. Vincent DePaul has in place.
