Trojans take 4th at Glenbard West Christmas Tournament

The Trojans competed last week in a Christmas tournament at Glenbard West High School. Opening night saw the Trojans battle with the undefeated warriors from Wheaton Academy. It was a close game (3pts) through three quarters but the Trojans were outplayed in the 4th quarter and lost 72-55. Game 2 was a victory vs. Addison Trail. Trailing 32-23 at the half, the Trojans were able to put together a solid 2nd half for the victory. Game 3 was a contest with Northside Prep. After a sluggish first quarter, the Trojans were able to finish strong and come away with a 56-27 victory. Based on their 2nd place finish in pool play, the Trojans played Glenbard West who finished in 2nd place in their pool. Although the Trojans gave up a distinct height advantage as Glenbard West has numerous players 6'6, they played a very strong first half. The Trojans led 34-25 at the half. The second half saw the lead slip away and Glenbard West finally tied the game with under a minute to play. Poor offensive execution as well as poor free throw shooting did in the Trojans on this night as they lost in overtime 58-53. Congratulations to Mike Pizzello who was selected by the other coaches to be placed on the all-tournament team.

The Trojans and coaching staff would like to tell everyone Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! The next game is Friday Jan. 7 at Ridgewood. Game time is 7:00 pm. Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans.

Tuesday night at Immaculate Conception high school the Trojans lost a close contest to our cross-town rival. The Trojans were able to battle back to tie the game and it went back and forth in the fourth quarter. Trojans Finish 2nd at Lisle Thanksgiving Tourney

The Trojans split a pair of games this weekend to finish the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament in 2nd place. On Friday, the Trojans faced the Knights from Providence St. Mel. The game was a very enjoyable game to watch but not with the result we would have liked as it went into two overtimes before being decided by a score of 77-74 in favor of Providence St. Mel. The Trojans got of to a strong start and led the first quarter 20-10. The good start did not carry over as the guys went cold in the 2nd quarter and were losing at halftime 27-26. The Third quarter saw the Trojans fall behind by 8 points before roaring back to close the gap. The 4th quarter was very intense as St. Mel had a 4 point lead with under a minute to play. The Trojans would not quit as they battled to tie the shot on a jumper by Mark Penczak at buzzer at the end of regulation and force overtime. The injury bug would hit the Trojans in the overtime periods as Mark Penczak (leg cramps), Danny Leach (ankle), Nathan Boot (leg cramps), and Matt Morrison (leg cramps) would all spend time on the bench. Mark and Danny were not able to return. Different guys came through giving a valiant effort to send the game into a second overtime. The guys came up a bit short in the end but showed tremendous determination throughout. We hope to use this game to make us better down the road. Nathan Boot and Mike Pizzello both registered a double double. Nathan had 17 pts and 10 rebounds and Mike finished with 10 pts and 10 rebounds. Danny Leach (20 pts, 7 rebs, 3 assists), Mark Penczak (15 pts, 7 rebs, 3 assists), Matt Morrison (8 pts, 4 rebs), Chris Ridolphi (2 pts, 2 rebs), and Nate Ziegler (2 pts, 1 reb, 1 assist) rounded out the scoring.

On Saturday, the Trojans would showcase their depth as they took the floor without Mark Penczak and Danny Leach vs. Lisle High School. The Trojans played a very solid game on both ends of the floor. Their defense was solid throughout and led to a 48-25 victory. The Trojans were led by Troy Ellens (15 pts, 5 rebs, 2 assists) and Mike Pizzello (13 pts, 6 rebounds, 4 assists). Contributions were made by everyone on this night as Nate Ziegler (4 pts, 5 assists, 2 rebs), Nathan Boot (7 pts, 6 rebs), Chris Ridolphi (5 pts, 2 rebs), Matt Morrison (4 pts, 4 rebs), Jon Penczak, Aaron Snoeyink (1 steal, 1 assist), Tyler VanderBrug (1 reb), and Brennen Lindsey all saw playing time in the victory.

Congratulations to Mark Penczak and Danny Leach who were chosen on the all-tournament team by Lisle High School. Mike Pizzello also had a very strong tournament and was very deserving as well. The Trojans games this week are on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception beginning at 7:30 pm and will have their first conference game at home on Friday vs. Glenbard South beginning at 7:00 pm. Please come out and support the Trojans.

Tuesday night saw the Trojans open their season at the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament vs. Chicago Perspectives. Perspectives is led by 6-10 Kentucky recruit Anthony Davis who scored 41 pts and had 21 rebounds. The Trojans were able to play a strong team game and hold on for a 73-64 victory.

The Trojans received hot shooting from the arc from Sophomore Danny Leach as he hit on 5 of 7 from the 3 pt. line to finish the night with 24 points and 2 assists. Senior Mark Penczak and Mike Pizzello showed their experience as they finished with very balanced games. Mark had 27 pts (15-19 from the free throw line), 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Mike played tenacious defense and had 9 pts, 10 rebounds, 7 steals, and 5 assists. Junior Chris Ridolphi (7 pts, 4 stls, and 2 assists) had a pretty good game as well. Troy Ellens (2 pts, 2 assists, 4 rebs), Nathan Boot (2 pts, 2 rebs), Matt Morrison (2 pts, 3 rebs), Nate Ziegler (2 stls, 1 reb) and Matt Robinson (2 stls) saw action in the victory.

Team Party Next Week??

We would like to have our team party some time next week if possible. We would like to meet for food (of course) and then hand out our awards.

We have done this in the past either at someone's house or at school. We would like to get it done before Spring Break.

Last year, we waited a bit too long and lost some of the luster.

We have talked to the team and are waiting to see if someone can host of if it should be at school.

We can all chip in to cover cost of the food.

Let me know if you are interested in hosting this party.

Thank you

Outstanding Season Ends In Super-sectional

The incredible ride in the state tournament ended on Tuesday night with a 70-55 loss to Top Ranked Hales Franciscan. The Trojans battled all game. Each time, Hales would make a run, the Trojans would battle back. At the end of the first quarter, the Trojans were behind 17-15. The second quarter was also back and forth and the Trojans were behind by a couple at the end of the quarter but Hales hit back to back 3 pt baskets to increase their lead to 33-26 at the half. Hales came out blazing in the 3rd quarter and built their lead to 15 points. The Trojans battled once again to close the gap to 7. Each time the Trojans battled back, Hales also had an answer. The final score was 70-55 but the game was tight throughout. Coach LeGrand was very proud of the Trojans as they battled so hard the entire game. Thank you to the Red Zone and the entire Timothy Christian Community for the support during this magical season and state tournament run. Trojans win 2 this weekend!

The Trojans were finally back in action this weekend. They had not played a game since the Glenbard West Tournament on Dec. 23. On Friday night, they travelled to Fenton for a league contest. The rust was very evident as the Trojans struggled to get any type of a flow on either the offensive or defensive end. Fenton went into halftime with a 36-25 lead. The deficit grew to about 14 with 5:00 left in the quarter when the Trojans went on a strong run and started playing with more intensity. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 48-46 in favor of Fenton. The Trojans were able to continue fighting in the 4th quarter in a good battle and held on to win the conference contest 59-54. Rob Stein scored 21 pts and grabbed 5 rebounds. Pt. guard Reggie Greenwood had 12 pts, 6 assists, 4 steals, and 4 rebounds. Justin Peeples and Mark Penczak chipped in with 12 and 7 points respectively. Sophomore Matt Morrison finished with 7 rebounds and 4 points as well. The Trojans showed good intensity the final quarter and a half and gutted out a victory, but know they can play better.

On Saturday night, the Trojans were finally able to play a home game vs. out of state rival Holland Christian from Holland Michigan. The last home game was on Dec. 4. It was nice to be home in a packed house to play a Holland Christian team that was much taller than the Trojans. The Trojans played a much better game than the previous night and came out firing on all cylinders. The intensity that had lacked was present on both the offensive and defensive end and the Trojans were able to get their running game going early which set the tone for the evening. The entire team came out with a lot of energy and it carried over into the entire game. Because of this the Trojans were able to secure a 72-56 victory. A solid all around game was turned in by Reggie Greenwood (21 pts, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds). Rob Stein scored a career high of 32 pts to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Justin Peeples (7 pts, 5 rebounds), Mike Pizzello (3 steals, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and 3 pts), Mark Penczak (6 pts, 4 rebounds, 3 assists,) all turned in solid games. The Trojans would like to thank the entire fans for the incredible atmosphere and support at the game. It was greatly appreciated and a fun high school atmosphere. The Trojans move to 12-4 on the year and continue their season with a contest on Friday night at Metro Suburban conference opponent Ridgewood at 7:00 pm. Please keep coming out and supporting the Trojans.
