Two conference wins for the Trojans!

Friday night the Trojans traveled to Guerin Prep for their third conference game of the season. After a slow start Timothy found themselves down by 4 points at halftime but battled back in the second half to take a close fought victory 39-33. One highlight of the game was Joe Bishop's overall performance. Joe took it upon himself to lift the team in all aspects of the game by finishing with 18 points, 9 rebounds and a couple steals. Another highlight was the gutsy and hard-nosed effort put forth by the guys coming off the bench (Mitch Evenhouse, Josh Caver, Jared Rhiner) who added the intensity and defensive effort needed. Overall, it was a hard fought and well deserved conference win.

Saturday night Timothy traveled again for another conference game vs. Elmwood Park which proved to be another hard fought close game. The Trojans struggled shooting from the outside and from the charity stripe in the first half which allowed Elmwood Park to stay within shooting distance. After a motivating halftime speech Timothy came out firing in the second half and closed the game out with yet another conference win! The final score was 45-32. Mitch Evenhouse came off the bench with another great performance and led all scorers with 10 points and added8 rebounds and 2 steals. Joey Davidson put together an all-around great game shooting 6-6 from the line with 4 assists, 3 rebounds and a couple of steals.

Timothy Trojans next game is against conference rival Chicago Christian on Saturday Dec. 20 at 5:30 PM.

Trojans finish strong with a win over Westmont!

Coming off a tough overtime loss to Illiana the night before the Trojans were thirsty for a win and Westmont was in their way. The eager Trojans jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter. Westmont was able to close the gap to a 6 point game by halftime thanks to some sharpshooting from 3 point range. Timothy came out strong in the 3rd and 4th quarters to put Westmont away and secure the victory 52-37. The Trojans were lead with great performances by Ben Lodewyk (14pts, 5 rebounds, 6 steals), Rob McGivney (9pts, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks), Joey Davidson (12 pts, shooting 5-7 from 2 point range) with Riley Chapman, Joe Bishop and Josh Caver putting the defensive clamps on Westmont's shooting guards.

Timothy loses to Illiana Christian in overtime!

Friday night was the home opener for the 2014-15 Trojans. The gym was packed for a conference contest with undefeated Illiana Christian. The game was a tightly fought contest the entire night. The first quarter saw the Trojans get out to a 6-2 lead. Illiana would gain control and lead at the end of the first quarter 16-11. That lead would grow to 28-20 at the half. The Trojans battled back in the 2nd half and had the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter 35-34. The lead would change hands down the stretch in the 4th quarter and the Trojans would tie the game 44-44 with 15 seconds to play. The Trojans made a strong defensive play and had the ball with a chance to win at the end of regulation but the last shot fell just short.

In the overtime period, Illiana was able to string a couple of baskets to hold off down the stretch and win the game 53-48 in overtime. The game had a very high level of intensity the entire night with guys from both teams diving all over the floor and although the Trojans were on the losing end, they fought valiantly and will learn from this game. I was very proud of the effort expended and we hope this game will help us in the future. The Trojans were led in scoring and rebounding by Robert McGivney who finished with 16 pts and 17 rebounds.

Thank you very much to all the fans who came out to support the team. The Trojans now stand at The next game is home on Saturday vs. the Westmont Sentinels at 7:00 pm.

Trojans end Tourney with a victory vs Lisle.

The Trojans competed on Friday and Saturday at the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament. On Friday night, the Trojans struggled to stay with eventual champion Chicago University High and lost 50-28. We struggled getting into any type of flow offensively and it was the type of game that the Trojans will use to become a better team as the season progresses.

On Saturday night, the Trojans finished the tournament against the host Lisle Lions. Timothy came out with the energy and intensity that was lacking the previous night and won the game 66-41. The game saw Timothy get out to a lead of 16-11 at the quarter and grew to 31-16 at the half. The Trojans had a very strong night defensively and also were very balanced on the offensive end. Trojans drop opener at Lisle

The Timothy Christian Trojans started their season on Tuesday night at the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament vs. Chicago Perspectives. They lost a hard fought contest 58-51. The first quarter saw both teams trading some early baskets but at the quarter Timothy was down 13-8. During the 2nd quarter the Trojans were able to get in a nice rhythm and outscore Perspectives 17-10 to lead at the half 25-23. During the 2nd half both teams once again traded possessions and Perspectives was up 43-39 going into the final stanza. During the 4th quarter, the Trojans were able to battle back and finally take the lead with 1:53 to play 51-50 when Ben Lodewyk hit a 3 from the top of the key. The lead was short lived as a Perspectives player was fouled going to the basket. He made the first free throw and then they got possession on a rebound off the missed 2nd free throw and were able to score to take the lead. Timothy had a couple of opportunities down the stretch but were not able to capitalize.
The Trojans were led by Robert McGivney (14 pts, 8 rebs, 2 blks, 2 stls), Ben Lodewyk (14 pts, 8 rebs, 2 stls), Joe Bishop (5 pts, 5 assists, 4 rebs,3 stls), Riley Chapman (6 pts, 2 rebs,) and Joe Davidson (9 pts, 3 rebs). Mitch Evenhouse (1 reb, 1 assist), provided a strong energy boost off the bench. Josh Caver (1 pt, 3 assists,) and Jared Rhiner (2 pts, 1 reb) also got their first taste of varsity action. It was a tough opening night loss but the Trojans will continue to build off this game as they continue to get better this season. The next game is Friday night at Lisle at 6:00 pm. Please come out and support the Trojans.

Trojans take to the road

It seems like it has been a long time since TC has had the opportunity to enjoy a home game and this weekend was no exception. On Friday Night, TC traveled to Glenbard South to play the Raiders. It was a back and forth first half as the Trojans stayed in the game using the 3-pt shot and went into halftime with a one-point lead. The second half was a different story as TC came out sluggish. The Raiders used this to their advantage as they built up a double-digit lead and ended up winning by 16 points as TC was forced to foul in the last minutes to keep the game close and the Trojans ended up falling by a score of 40-56.

For the game, The Trojans managed only 7 free throws and ultimately relied on the 3-pt shot too heavily. Justin Rhiner and Connor VanderBrug each had 14 points for the Trojans. Joe Bishop contributed 5 rebounds to go along with 4 points and 4 steals. Ben Lodweyk handed out 4 assists and came up with two steals. The lose dropped the Trojans record to 10-7(5-2 Conference).

On Saturday, February 1 the Trojans traveled to Fulton, IL to participate in the Eric Ottens Memorial Shootout to play Clinton(IA). It was a very emotional and exciting game and it certainly was competitive from the beginning. Clinton got out of the gate quickly going ahead by a score of 14-6 early. TC would fight back and would lead for much of the game, however, in the final minutes foul troubles would leave the Trojans without starters Wes Ditchfield, Connor VanderBrug, Justin Rhiner, and Ben Lodewyk. TC had the ball trailing by two with only seconds to play when Robert McGivney made a long two to push the game to Overtime. In the overtime frame Clinton had just a little too much as the Trojans ended up losing by a score of 56-62.

Connor VanderBrug led the Trojans with 23 points to go along with 6 rebounds and two blocks before fouling out. Wes Ditchfield had a tremendous floor-game with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 3 assists. Ben Lodewyk had 10 points, 7 rbeonds, and 4 assists. Robert McGivney grabbed 5 rebounds and Joe Bishop chipped in 3 rebounds and 2 steals. After losing the Trojans recorded fell to 10-8(5-2 conference). The Trojans next game is a conference game at Riverside-Brookfield at 7pm on Friday, February 7. Thanks to all who braved the weather to come out to Fulton!

Trojans defeated by IC Catholic Prep

On Saturday night the Trojans went across town to visit the Knights of Immaculate Conception. The day was dedicated to the fight against cancer with all three levels of both the boys and girls playing throughout the day to go along with auctions and T-shirts sales to raise money to support the fight for the cure. The game was tight throughout the first half as IC led by one point after the first quarter. TC made a run to start the second quarter as they took a 4-pt lead with about three minutes to go in the half when Connor VanderBrug picked up his third foul. IC took advantage of the Trojans losing their big man to take a 4-pt lead at the half. The second half was highly competitive just like the first. Using the 3-pt shot to kept them close in the first half the Trojans just weren't able to come up with the timely three in the second half. Seventeen turnovers and only three steals on the night certainly didn't help the TC. In the end, the Trojans lost by a score of 49-58.

High rebounder for the night was Justin Rhiner who had 8 rebounds to go along with 8 points. Wes Ditchfield had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. High Scorer for the game was Connor VanderBrug with 23 pts to go along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Guards Ben Lodewyk and Joe Bishop handed out 4 assists each.

The lose drops TC's record to 10-6(5-1 conference) with their next game being at 7pm on Friday, Jan. 31st at Glenbard South. Thanks to all those who braved the cold to come out to IC and support the Trojans.

Trojans get victory at Illiana !!

On Saturday, the Trojans completed their first round of conference play at Illiana Christian. This game was a make-up game from the cancellation earlier because of weather. The game was a tightly played contest throughout. Illiana had the early lead as the Trojans tried to find some rhythm on the offensive end. The Trojans gathered themselves and took a small lead into halftime. The game remained close throughout. Timothy was able to go on a small run and increase the lead in the 4th quarter. The Vikings would not go away quietly as they started making 3 pt shots and the Trojans were able to hit enough free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory 53-47.

The Trojans were led by Connor VanderBrug (20 pts, 9 rebs, 1 assist) and Wes Ditchfield (8 rebs, 5 pts, 3 steals, 2 assists, 1 block). Joe Bishop had a solid game as well contributing 9 pts, 5 rebs, 3 assists, and 7 steals and Ben Lodewyk (11 pts) knocked down some key shots.
